Overtime Exemption Rules

The Department of Labor has finalized regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act which will effect “white collar” overtime exemption effective 12-1-16. Several states have filed suit in protest, (including Ohio), but until a federal ruling comes down, Ohio companies will need to be in compliance with the new regulations.

Who’s affected?

Salaried employees earning more than $455wk/$23,600yr but not more than $913wk/$47,476yr. (previously not paid overtime).

Determining which employees are effected will be time consuming, as will tracking hours and finding a cost effective method for doing so. Preplanning with the aid of your payroll processor and discussions with your employees will greatly help in compliance and cost savings.
